Forest Products Forum:Portland
September 17, 2013
Come join us for our 3rd Annual Forest Products Forum—the premier conference featuring forward-looking analysis of the wood products, timber and wood biomass sectors. Following successful events in 2011 and 2012, Forest Economic Advisors (FEA) will once again host an event in conjunction with Who Will Own the Forest? 9. This year’s Forum will once again be at the front-end of the Who Will Own the Forest? event. We will provide a full day of analysis on September 17th followed by the industry’s best-attended cocktail reception at the WFC Discovery Museum.
This one-day event will feature industry-leading economists from Forest Economic Advisors (FEA) addressing a wide range of hot-button topics as well as a variety of outside experts offering their views on the most important issues facing stakeholders in the industry.
Who Should Attend?
Strategic planners, senior executives, purchasing managers, sales managers, investment analysts and other stakeholders in the forest products sector should attend this event. Reserve the date of September 17, 2013 to ensure than you can attend the premier forward-looking event for the wood products, timber, wood pulp and biomass sectors.
Attendees will leave our event with insights into the following questions:
How will the US housing recovery play out over the next few years?
How big is the overhang of existing homes in the US and how long will it take to work it off?
Which key indicators does FEA advise its clients to follow to best understand the nature of the nascent recovery in housing and wood products markets?
How much timber is being stored on the stump and for how long will this excess inventory suppress timber prices?
Will we see a Super-Cycle in lumber prices in the second half of the decade as US housing starts recover and BC fiber availability wanes?
What impact will changing design values for visually-graded Southern pine - and other major species of lumber wreak on the industry?
Could supply restrictions in Eastern Canada approach or even surpass those in beetle-ravaged British Columbia?
How much market share can I expect OSB to take from plywood over the medium and long term?
Could we see a shortage of LVL capacity by the middle of the decade?
What are the prospects for a rebound in domestic furniture production as consumption improves and high oil prices and a weak USD slow furniture imports?
Is the wood biomass industry viable in an era when natural gas is trading barely more than half of its ten-year average price?
We called our event a Forum in the hopes that we could present a wide variety of informed viewpoint on the issues of the day and we have arranged to bring in several outside speakers to supplement and, sometimes challenge, our analysis. The 2013 Forum will examine a wide range of topics including the following:
The opportunities and challenges presented by the vast Chinese market.
Prospects for wood products exports in emerging markets such as India, Pakistan and the Middle East.
Other potential topics include: the Russian supply outlook, an alternative vision of the US housing outlook, the potential for increased wood usage in the non-residential construction sector and a detailed exploration into global capacity trends in wood panels from the perspective of a globally focused equipment manufacturer.
