Katerra Announces Closing of Phoenix Factory

Katerra announced the closure of it’s modular building factory in Phoenix, AZ later this month. The facility, Katerra’s first building components factory, opened in 2017 and employed 200 workers. Katerra also announced plans to begin construction on a 600,000-square-foot facility in San Marcos, TX in early 2020. This is in addition to it’s Tracy, CA facility which is currently ramping up production and a recently opened CLT mill in Spokane, WA. The closure of the Phoenix facility likely marks the shift by Katerra away from using light frame lumber and towards light gauge steel and mass timber.
