Northeast Lumber Manufactures Association (NELMA) Releases Updated Standard Grading Rules Book

The Northeastern Lumber Manufacturers Association (NELMA) has released an updated Standard Grading Rules for Northeast Lumber book. As one of six rules-writing agencies in the U.S. and Canada accredited by the American Lumber Standard Committee (ALSC) to write grade rules certified as conforming to the American Softwood Lumber Standard PS20. On average NELMA updates its Grading Rules book on average every 3 – 4 years. NELMA explains that Standard Grading Rules for Northeastern Lumber is provided to the industry as a definitive guide to understanding the various grades of lumber and timbers produced from wood species grown in the northeast and Great Lakes regions of the United States. It is the keystone to understanding and learning about each grade of lumber. Informative sections highlight species, moisture content, special board grades, National Grading Rules (NGR), design values, and much ore. A glossary provides easy explanation of terms and abbreviations used throughout the 250+ page book. The Standard Grading Rules for Northeastern Lumber book is currently available online. The hard copy of the Rules is at this time sold out.
