Maine Senator Asks US Government to Consider Mass Timber in All New and Renovated Federal Buildings

Maine’s junior senator, Angus King, is asking the General Services Administration (GSA) to integrate mass timber into the procurement process for the construction and renovation of federal buildings, Maine Public Radio reported (11-19-23).

King and other senators say that mass timber would help to reduce the carbon footprint of federal buildings as well as reduce construction costs.

King’s office says mass timber has seen growth in its use across the country, from a handful of buildings eight years to almost two thousand today. The forest products industry supports about 14,000 jobs across Maine.
